Obsessed with the Permanent Things
Farmer Studio was founded on a single conviction: digital work that looks good for six months is not worth building.
“We were trained in the disciplines of editorial design — where a single bad layout decision can ruin a magazine. That instinct for consequence is what we bring to the web.”
The studio was founded in 2019 by James Farmer, formerly of Pentagram, with the conviction that the premium end of the digital market was being dramatically underserved. Agencies were producing generic work. Freelancers were producing inconsistent work. Nobody was treating digital as a medium that deserved the same standard of craft as print.
Today Farmer Studio works with luxury brands, category-defining startups, and cultural institutions across four continents. Our team is small by design — we do not scale by hiring, we scale by being more selective.
The Studio's Values
These are not aspirational statements. They are operational principles that shape every decision we make.
Craft Over Speed
We would rather take the time to do something right than ship something that embarrasses our clients. This means we are selective about the projects we take on and the timelines we commit to.
Design With Purpose
Every aesthetic decision serves a functional one. We do not add animation because it looks impressive — we add it because it communicates something. Decoration is a cost, not a benefit.
The Work Speaks
We have found that the best clients care less about our pitch and more about our portfolio. We spend our energy building things that demonstrate our capabilities rather than describing them.
Honest Collaboration
We will tell a client when we think they are wrong. We expect the same in return. The best work emerges from relationships where both parties are committed to the outcome, not the relationship.
Small Team, Large Ambition
We work with a core team of three and a trusted network of specialists we have collaborated with for years.
James Farmer
Fifteen years across editorial, brand, and digital. Formerly at Pentagram and Wieden+Kennedy.
Sara Okonkwo
Full-stack engineer with a background in computational design. Built systems for Series A through public company.
Marcus Chen
Motion-first designer who began in film post-production. Every interface he designs feels like it has weight.
Ready to build something permanent?
We take on a limited number of new projects each quarter. If you have something worth building, we would like to hear about it.
